From the President’s Desk,
Hello and welcome to the 2009-2010 season! This is going to be a very interesting year and I am honored to be your president.
You may recall that we had set three definite goals to work on last year and we will continue to do the same in our new season. They are:
Put on three great shows.
Reconnect with the Community.
Raise Funds.
Last year, we put on two wonderful shows. This year, however, will present some very difficult challenges. The cost of doing theater in South Lake High School auditorium has gone up significantly. Simply put, we do not have the funds to put on shows at that location at this time. To my mind, where we do theater is not nearly as important as the fact that we are doing theater. As we come up with solutions, we will inform the membership. Further details will be provided at upcoming General Membership meetings.
I think we did a great job with participating last year at the Saint Clair Shores Memorial Day Parade. Passing the word around about our group and what we do can only help us and generate interest. Membership participation is absolutely key to make these things happen. I’m very grateful to our members who take their valuable time and effort and get these events off the ground. I look forward to us getting involved with even more events this year.
Raising funds is key to what we do. The past several years have proven that putting on theatrical presentations is not a profitable venture. Without generous patron donations and continuous fund raising work, we would simply cease to be. This summer we held one car wash that generated about $300 in revenue. My hope is that we get members to continue to come up with more money generating ideas and more importantly to participate in helping the group raise money.
I know that when we all pull together we can make amazing things happen. Please join me in working towards our goals to make the SCS Players a success and to make this year one of our best!
